The peer review process is a cornerstone of academic publishing, ensuring that only high-quality, original, and impactful biotechnology research is published. At Biotechnology Frontiers (ISSN: 3117-5791), we deeply value the expertise and dedication of our reviewers. These guidelines are designed to assist reviewers in conducting fair, constructive, and timely evaluations that maintain the integrity and excellence of the journal.
1. Responsibilities of Reviewers
Reviewers are expected to:
- Provide objective, unbiased, and confidential assessments of manuscripts.
- Evaluate the novelty, significance, methodology, and clarity of the research.
- Offer constructive feedback to help authors strengthen their manuscripts.
- Identify potential issues such as plagiarism, duplication, data manipulation, or ethical concerns.
- Declare any conflicts of interest that could compromise their impartiality.
- Complete reviews within the agreed timeline to ensure timely publication.
2. Evaluation Criteria
When reviewing a manuscript, please consider the following:
- Originality & Novelty: Does the study introduce new concepts, techniques, or applications in biotechnology?
- Relevance: Is the research significant to biotechnology and its interdisciplinary fields (e.g., bioengineering, molecular biology, bioinformatics, medical or agricultural biotechnology)?
- Methodology: Are the research design, experimental techniques, data analysis, and statistical methods rigorous and appropriate?
- Clarity & Structure: Is the manuscript logically organized, clearly written, and easy to follow?
- References & Citations: Are prior works and recent advances in the field properly acknowledged?
- Figures, Tables & Data: Are they accurate, high-quality, and supportive of the conclusions?
3. Review Process
Invitation: Reviewers receive an invitation with the manuscript title and abstract.
Acceptance/Decline: Confirm availability and expertise before accepting.
Confidential Review: Manuscripts must not be shared or discussed without permission.
Recommendation: Reviewers may recommend:
- Accept as is
- Minor revision
- Major revision
- Reject
Feedback Submission: Submit constructive comments for authors (clear, detailed, respectful) and confidential notes for editors if necessary.
4. Confidentiality & Ethics
Manuscripts are confidential documents and must not be used for personal benefit.
Reviewers must avoid bias or discrimination based on gender, race, religion, nationality, or institutional affiliation.
If unqualified or unable to provide an objective review, reviewers should notify the editor immediately.
5. Benefits of Reviewing
Recognition in the journal’s annual acknowledgment list of reviewers.
Eligibility for a Certificate of Review upon request.
Consideration for future roles such as Editorial Board Member or Guest Editor.
