Guest Editor Guidelines

Journal Information

To promote the visibility of our journal and to provide fresh perspectives on emerging topics in engineering and technology, we regularly invite Guest Editors to lead Special Issues. These guidelines are intended to help Guest Editors understand their role, responsibilities, and the process of successfully editing a Special Issue.

What Guest Editors Need to Do

1. Prepare a Proposal

We welcome editorial board members, well-qualified authors, reviewers, and external experts in relevant engineering fields to edit a Special Issue for the journal. The Editor-in-Chief and Board Members may suggest a theme based on the Guest Editor’s expertise, or the Guest Editor may propose a theme within the scope of the journal.

The proposed theme should:

  • Be of high current interest in engineering and technology.
  • Be broad enough to attract readers across disciplines.
  • Be specific enough to maintain focus and scholarly depth.
  • Proposals should be submitted to the Editorial Office at: deij@academicsociety.org

The Editor-in-Chief, in consultation with the Board Members, will evaluate the proposal within two weeks of submission.

A Special Issue proposal should include:

  • Current CV and short biography of the Guest Editor (including expertise and editorial experience).
  • Names and contact information for up to two co-Guest Editors (if any).
  • The proposed theme/topic and expected number of articles.
  • Background and significance of the theme.
  • Scope of the Special Issue with six keywords representing the topic.
  • A tentative list of potential contributors (optional).
  • Tentative timeline for manuscript solicitation, peer review, and finalization.
  • Declaration of any conflict of interest related to the topic or contributors.

2. Promote the Special Issue and Invite Papers

Once approved, the Guest Editor will:

  • Draft and circulate a Call for Papers.
  • Share it through personal networks, professional groups, conferences, and workshops.
  • Invite high-quality contributions from researchers in the field.
  • Meanwhile, the Editorial Office will also:
  • Promote the Special Issue through the journal website, social media, and targeted mailing lists.
  • Circulate the Call for Papers among Board Members and the broader research community.

Both invited and open submissions are welcome for a Special Issue.

3. Oversee Peer Review and Ensure Quality

All manuscripts in a Special Issue must meet the same high standards as regular submissions.

Every paper must undergo rigorous double-blind peer review.

Guest Editors act as Academic Editors for their Special Issue submissions, unless conflicts of interest exist.

In case of conflict, the Editor-in-Chief will assign another Academic Editor.

Guest Editors are expected to:

  • Ensure validity and scientific rigor of review reports.
  • Monitor potential reviewer-author conflicts of interest.
  • Report suspected misconduct to the Editor-in-Chief.
  • Recommend decisions (“Acceptance”, “Minor Revision”, “Major Revision”, or “Rejection”) to the Editor-in-Chief.

Important:

Papers authored or co-authored by Guest Editors should not exceed 25% of the total papers in the Special Issue.

If a manuscript fits within the journal’s scope but not the Special Issue’s scope, it may be redirected to regular submission.

Benefits of Guest Editors

By serving as a Guest Editor, you will gain:

  • Valuable editorial and leadership experience.
  • Increased visibility and reputation in your field.
  • A profile page with your career details on the Special Issue website.
  • Consideration for invitation to the Editorial Board.
  • A formal Certificate of Acknowledgment.

What the Editorial Office Will Do

To support Guest Editors, the Editorial Office will:

  • Display Special Issue information on the journal’s homepage.
  • Promote the Call for Papers across mailing lists, networks, and social media.
  • Provide technical and editorial assistance during the review process.
  • Distribute the published Special Issue in PDF format with the Guest Editor’s profile on the cover.
