The rapid growth of artificial intelligence, big data, cloud computing, and advanced analytics has created a strong demand for mathematical models that can efficiently process large volumes of information. Computational mathematics provides the theoretical and computational foundation for developing algorithms that improve accuracy, efficiency, and automation across various scientific and industrial applications [1-2]. In engineering, computational mathematics is widely used for simulation, optimization, structural analysis, and system modeling. In artificial intelligence and data science, mathematical techniques support machine learning algorithms, predictive modeling, and pattern recognition. Similarly, economics relies on computational methods for forecasting, financial analysis, and resource optimization. These applications enable organizations to make data-driven decisions while reducing operational costs and improving performance [3-5]. The integration of computational mathematics with emerging digital technologies has accelerated innovation in healthcare, manufacturing, finance, transportation, and smart cities. Advanced computational techniques allow researchers and engineers to solve complex mathematical problems that are difficult or impossible to analyze using traditional analytical methods. As digital technologies continue to evolve, computational mathematics will remain a key driver of intelligent automation and sustainable technological development. This review presents a concise overview of computational mathematics and its major applications in artificial intelligence, engineering, economics, and data science, while discussing current challenges and future research opportunities.

2. Fundamentals of Computational Mathematics

Computational mathematics combines mathematical theory, numerical analysis, and computer science to solve complex real-world problems. It focuses on developing algorithms and computational models that provide approximate solutions when exact analytical solutions are difficult to obtain. These methods improve computational efficiency and enable the analysis of large-scale systems across different disciplines [6-7]. The field supports digital transformation by providing tools for optimization, simulation, statistical analysis, and predictive modeling. Modern computational mathematics utilizes high-performance computing, numerical methods, and advanced algorithms to process large datasets and solve multidimensional problems. Its applications have expanded significantly with the growth of artificial intelligence, machine learning, and data-driven technologies, making it an essential component of modern scientific research and industrial innovation.

3. Applications in Artificial Intelligence

Artificial intelligence (AI) relies heavily on computational mathematics for developing intelligent algorithms capable of learning from data and making accurate predictions. Mathematical concepts such as linear algebra, probability, optimization, and statistics form the foundation of machine learning and deep learning models. These techniques improve the efficiency of image recognition, natural language processing, robotics, and autonomous systems [8-9]. Computational mathematics also supports model training, parameter optimization, and performance evaluation. As AI continues to evolve, advanced mathematical algorithms play a critical role in improving accuracy, reducing computational complexity, and enabling intelligent decision-making across various industries.

4. Applications in Engineering

Engineering applications of computational mathematics include structural analysis, fluid dynamics, heat transfer, optimization, and system simulation. Numerical methods help engineers evaluate complex structures and physical processes before actual implementation, reducing development costs and improving design quality [10-11]. Modern engineering increasingly relies on computational models for designing smart buildings, transportation systems, renewable energy facilities, and industrial automation. These tools enhance productivity, improve safety, and support sustainable engineering practices through accurate simulations and optimized resource utilization.

5. Applications in Economics

Computational mathematics has transformed economic analysis by providing efficient techniques for forecasting, optimization, and financial modeling. Mathematical algorithms help economists analyze market trends, estimate risks, and evaluate investment strategies using large datasets [12]. Advanced computational models support economic planning, supply chain optimization, and policy analysis. The integration of big data analytics and artificial intelligence has further improved the accuracy of economic predictions, enabling governments and organizations to make informed financial decisions.

6. Applications in Data Science

Data science depends on computational mathematics for data processing, statistical analysis, and predictive modeling. Mathematical techniques enable the extraction of meaningful information from large and complex datasets, supporting evidence-based decision-making [13]. Machine learning, data mining, and visualization techniques are widely used in healthcare, finance, business, education, and scientific research. Computational mathematics improves data accuracy, reduces processing time, and enables efficient analysis of structured and unstructured information.

7. Emerging Technologies

The rapid development of cloud computing, high-performance computing, artificial intelligence, and the Internet of Things (IoT) has expanded the scope of computational mathematics. These technologies provide powerful computing resources for solving large-scale mathematical problems and processing massive datasets in real time [14]. Digital twin technology and edge computing are also transforming engineering and industrial applications by enabling continuous monitoring, predictive maintenance, and intelligent automation. These advancements are driving digital transformation across multiple sectors.

8. Challenges and Future Perspectives

Despite significant advancements, computational mathematics faces several challenges, including high computational costs, data quality issues, algorithm complexity, and cybersecurity concerns. Many advanced mathematical models require powerful computing resources and large datasets, which may not always be available. Future research should focus on developing efficient algorithms, integrating quantum computing, improving explainable artificial intelligence, and enhancing computational efficiency. These innovations will strengthen digital transformation and support sustainable technological development in various disciplines.

References

Bathe, K.
